Eucharistic Love in Action

Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus

One Heart, many missions

From one Eucharistic Heart, many missions. The Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus live their lives around the altar and go out from it to pray, to teach, to care for the sick, and to serve the parishes that welcome them. Find the Sisters near you, or pray and give with the whole congregation.

Where the Sisters Serve

Each mission has its own pages: its Sisters, its calendar and photographs, prayer intentions, and the appeals of its parishes.

A Worldwide Family of Sisters

  1. 1940

    A need is named

Visiting Lagos as the Holy See’s delegate, Cardinal Riberi noticed that there were no African women among the Sisters serving there, and urged that Nigeria have Sisters of its own.

  2. 1943

    The congregation is founded

Archbishop Leo Hale Taylor of the Society of African Missions — born in the Diocese of Duluth, Minnesota, and Archbishop of Lagos — founded the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. The first five postulants began at Abeokuta under Mother Enda Barrett, OLA.

  3. 1946

    A motherhouse at Ibonwon

The novitiate and motherhouse moved to Ibonwon, where generations of Sisters have been formed in prayer, study, and community life.

  4. Today

    One Heart, many missions

Today the Sisters serve in Anacortes, and in the congregation’s communities in Nigeria and beyond.
